An old legend tells of a waterfall called the Dragon Gate. Thousands of koi try to swim up it, and almost all of them get thrown back. The one that makes it to the top turns into a dragon.
In Japan the legend lives on as a word. 登竜門 (tōryūmon), "the dragon gate," is what people call the exam, the audition, or the first big break that separates who made it from who didn't. That's the koi you see on tattoos, on Children's Day banners, and on anyone who's still mid-climb.
The back shows the whole jump: the koi fighting up through Hokusai-style waves while the dragon it's becoming breaks out of the frame above. The small koi on the front left chest is the before picture.

How is it printed?
Printed to order with direct-to-garment (DTG) ink, which goes into the cotton instead of sitting on top like a sticker.
How do I wash it?
Turn it inside out, machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, and air dry (or tumble dry low if you're in a hurry). Expect a little shrinkage after the first wash; it's cotton.
